Here is a roll call of faith. The parade of notable live presented here should stir everyone to greatness, but especially young people. These heroes are determined individuals who succeeded while remaining faithful to their Christian principles. As role models for today, they show that God can do great things through a life submitted to Him. These 2-3 page biographies include 33 scientists and are helpful in filling out the “Scientist Detective” pages in the “Digging Deeper” sections of Considering God’s Creation.
The “Scientist Detective” pages were designed to develop a very important learning skill. In the process of finding out information about various scientists, your child is learning to develop the ability to discern the scientist ‘s worldview. Essentially, there are two worldviews—a view of the world with God as Creator, or a view of the world as happening by chance, with man as autonomous and accountable to no one. A person’s worldview colors everything he believes, and consequently, a scientist’s conclusions will be affected by his theology. This skill can be carried over to discern the heart of an author, a television program or even a politician.

This is a great little book for reading short, but thorough and well written overviews of some really wonderful people who have historically affected our world. Often there are mentioned a person’s contemporary and how one was affected by the other, or how one builds on another’s ideas. This adds so much more character and interest to the people we read about and reinforces what has already been learned. I would have given this a 5-star rating, but sometimes the bio’s get a bit too technical about scientific principles which fly right over the heads of my younger students. (Elementary aged) But don’t let that discourage you from reading this book, it is full of wonderful information and weaves the person’s faith throughout the short biography. We added this to our daily morning Bible study time and my children all love to listen to it being read aloud.
